Zimbabwe's education system encourages innovation through practical School-Based Projects. While this is an excellent way to apply knowledge, many young learners struggle to complete these projects without structured guidance.
Teachers have limited time to support each child individually, and many families lack the resources or language confidence to assist at home. Language barriers also play a role, as many learners understand the concepts but need help expressing them academically in English.
Learning is a collective experience where children grow through shared knowledge, mentorship, and cooperation.
We provide a space where children can receive the consistent academic support they need, ensuring no child is left behind simply because they lacked a quiet place to work or someone to guide their ideas.
The fundamental areas that shape our learning environment and support our learners.
Hands-on creation, prototype building, and problem-solving focus.
Academic writing guidance woven naturally into project creation sessions.
Agricultural experimentation and environmental study spaces for students.
We operate as an after-school project learning studio, focusing on practical skills, language development, and academic confidence.
Guided, hands-on creation. Facilitators provide mentorship as students conduct research and build prototypes.
Integrated academic writing support. We weave communication guidance into our project sessions.
Deadline-driven scheduling. We work backwards from deadlines to teach effective time management.
Rooted in Ubuntu philosophy. Inclusive environments with support packages for transport and meals.
Water safety education and beginner swimming confidence sessions for our younger learners.
Engaging holiday programmes to keep learners active and supported between school terms.
We use a 'Reverse Planning' strategy to ensure every child has a clear roadmap to completion.
Assessment of project requirements, language confidence, and support needs.
Backwards planning from the school deadline to estimate exact session requirements.
Regular after-school sessions for research, brainstorming, and prototype construction.
Facilitators help structure thoughts into clear academic English reports for submission.
Launching as a focused pilot at the TGSCCC Town Office in Vernon Lodge, Bulawayo, to refine methods before scaling.
Support for designing physical models (e.g., solar dryers or irrigation prototypes).
Assistance with research gathering, report structuring, and English academic editing.
Gentle support for foundational comprehension, language development, and writing skills.
Hlumani Hub success relies on community collaboration. There are many practical ways to help.
